HoldUp Evo and SingleSpeed Recall – Consumer

IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

SAFETY RECALL NOTICE: NHTSA ID: 18E038
June 4, 2018

Dear Yakima Customer:

Yakima Products has found that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists with Yakima HoldUp EVO and SingleSpeed products (2018 release).

IMPORTANT!
Certain Yakima Yakima HoldUp EVO and SingleSpeed products (2018 release) are being recalled. The affected units can be identified by determining the shape of the Snap Pin heads shown below (one on each side).

In the interest of ensuring absolute safety using the HoldUp EVO products, we ask that you immediately examine your product to determine if you have an affected unit. If your HoldUp EVO products have Snap Pins that have a fully round head, please remove the HoldUp EVO product from your vehicle immediately and discontinue use until it can be upgraded with new Snap Pins to be provided by Yakima Products.

Why is a recall being conducted?
Yakima has determined that HoldUp EVO SKU’s manufactured between March 1, 2018 and April 30, 2018 may have a pin not fully snapped into place. These snap pins could become loose and fall out causing the rear wheel cup (and rear wheel) to detach from the main frame. Prior warnings of this defect may include sliding or banging noises if the rear wheel and wheel cup detaches from the frame and hits the ground. This could result in a bike ejection, causing a crash or personal injury to persons outside the vehicle.

What are we doing about the problem?
Yakima is asking that consumers contact Yakima Customer Service. The consumer is being asked to remove the old Snap Pins and replace with them proper new Snap Pins that Yakima will provide at no charge. Replacement Snap Pins will be available by June 8, 2018.

What should you do?
If you determine or suspect that the Snap Pins in your product are not correct as noted above, immediately remove the product from your vehicle. Fill out the form at the bottom of this page in order to be sent replacement Snap Pins free of charge. Once replacement pins are delivered to you, follow the video at the bottom of this page to learn how to install.
