Sunset shreds
In a world where women are breaking barriers and embracing their passions fearlessly, one event stands out as a shining example of camaraderie, empowerment, and the sheer joy of mountain biking. The Sunset Shreds 10-city coast-to-coast event, sponsored by Pivot Cycles, Yakima, DT Swiss and Wild Rye, brought together women, femme & non-binary identifying riders to celebrate their love for the sport while supporting the non-profit organization World Ride. With its mission to empower women globally through mountain biking, World Ride is seeing, first-hand how mountain biking is making a difference in the lives of the women. Let’s dive into this extraordinary event and explore the incredible stories of camaraderie and empowerment that unfolded.
Setting the stage
Yakima had the privilege to host The Sunset Shreds event right in our backyard of Hood River by our very own Marie Major, Director of Consumer Experience, whom you can find, most often on two wheels. The air was filled with excitement as riders from different locations in the surrounding area converged to connect, inspire, and challenge each other. As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow across the mountains, the stage was set for a remarkable experience that would leave a lasting impact on everyone involved.
camaraderie at its finest
At the Sunset Shreds events, the spirit of friendship was palpable. Women of all ages and skill levels came together to support each other, sharing stories, tips, and encouragement. The event created a safe space for riders to push their limits and build lasting friendships. Whether it was conquering technical trails or tackling adrenaline-pumping descents, every participant found a support system that elevated their confidence and skills. Each event includes an evening of creating new friends, guided riding by local shredders, a full fleet of Pivot demo bikes, title sponsor swag bags, post-ride beer, dinner and a World Ride film screening.
empowerment through mountain biking
One of the key driving forces behind the Sunset Shreds event was the partnership with World Ride, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women globally through mountain biking. World Ride believes that the transformative power of the sport extends beyond the trail, providing opportunities for personal growth, community engagement, and empowerment. Collectively, Pivot Cycles, Yakima, DT Swiss and Wild Rye demonstrated their commitment to fostering a more inclusive and equitable outdoor community.
Stories of empowerment
During the event, the participants shared stories of their own transformative journeys through mountain biking. From overcoming personal challenges to embracing their strength and resilience, each rider had a unique tale to tell. Through the support of World Ride, many women from underserved communities were able to access mountain biking, finding a new sense of freedom and empowerment. These stories served as a reminder that through the sport, barriers can be broken, confidence can be gained, and dreams can be achieved.
the legacy
As the sun dipped below the horizon and we noshed on Tacos and local drinks – marking the end of the Sunset Shreds event – its impact continued to resonate within every participant. The event had not only fostered a sense of camaraderie and empowerment but also left an indelible mark on the wider community. By highlighting the incredible work of World Ride, we all came together in hopes to inspire others to empower women through outdoor sports. As the sun set on Hood River location, it became evident that when women come together, they can create a powerful force that not only transforms lives but also paves the way for a brighter future. We hope that each person walked away with a new friend to ride with and endless joy.
